The Gettysburg Heritage Trail Program includes five program elements, one of which is the Historic Gettysburg Trail.
The Historic Gettysburg Trail is a three mile walking tour of the town of Gettysburg, which takes two to three hours to complete. The tour will stop at specific locations on the trail guide. You will visit required historic sites and your guide will describe the civilian experiences during the battle at that location. You will also walk in Lincoln’s footsteps and experience his visit to Gettysburg November 1863. Scouts who complete the Historic Gettysburg Trails segment of the Heritage Trails Program will receive a recognition patch.
If you are not here to participate in the Gettysburg Heritage Trail Program but are interested in knowing what the town and civilians experienced during the three day battle, then join us for one of our 90 minute walking tours.
The women and girls of the town took on the responsibility of caring for the wounded Union and Confederate soldiers. Walk through the town and learn what it was like to be a girl living in 1863 Gettysburg before, during and after the three day battle. Hear about President Lincoln’s visit and the dedication of the National Cemetery.
